Setting Buffer Size in FL Studio

What is Buffer Size?

Your Audio Buffer Size of your DAW is an important setting that affects how your DAW performs overall. If your Buffer Size is set too small, you may experience clicks, crackling, or CPU Overloads. A high Buffer Size will introduce latency.

What Should I Set My Buffer Size To?

Your ideal Buffer Size setting will depend on two things:

  • The type of work you are doing at the time
  • Your CPU and how much it can handle

If you are mixing and trying to run many plugins, it is common to set your Buffer Size high (512, 1024, 2048+).


If you are tracking and want to avoid latency, set your Buffer Size as low as possible without introducing CPU Overloads, clicks, and crackles (typically 128 or 256).

How To Set Buffer Size in FL Studio


In FL Studio, go to Options > Audio settings:
